In our quest for a net-zero future, geothermal energy stands out as a formidable and sustainable energy source. In this talk, Prof. Ranjith PG will explore the vast potential of geothermal energy, emphasizing its ability to provide a consistent and renewable energy supply. However, geothermal energy also presents a set of challenges that need to be addressed to unlock its full potential.Prof. Ranjith PG will highlight the Australian geothermal project as a key example, discussing both the opportunities it presents and the specific challenges it faces, including geological complexities and regulatory issues. This case study will provide valuable insights into the real-world application of geothermal technology and the hurdles that must be overcome. Furthermore, Prof. Ranjith PG will explore into the latest advancements in modelling and experimental techniques for the stimulation of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), with a particular focus on the pioneering work done at the 3G Deep Earth Energy Laboratory.
